LEAGUE TECHNICAL AND SPORTING RULES & REGULATIONS

This page outlines the technical and sporting rules and regulations established for our NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway racing centers. If you would like specific league and competition event information for a specific racing center location, please contact that racing center directly.

1. Point System:
The following point breakdown will be the same for all leagues;

NSMS Point Distribution
1st - 175 6th - 152 11th - 135
2nd - 170 7th - 148 12th - 132
3rd - 165 8th - 144 13th - 129
4th - 160 9th - 141 14th - 126
5th - 156 10th - 138

Bonus Points:
5 bonus points will be awarded to the leader at the halfway point of the race.

2. Starting Grid:

  • The first race of the season (league) all racers will draw for the car they will drive for the qualifying race in the order in which they signed up for the league.

  • The black flagged qualifying race will be used to determine the starting grid. The person with the fastest lap time will get the pole and their first choice of car, with the slowest time in the last position with last choice of car.

  • After the first race the drivers will use the car they raced in the previous week for every league race during that league, including all qualifying races. Order of pole will be determined by the 4-lap black flagged qualifying race.
  • 3. Substitutes:
Substitutions will be allowed at no extra charge for one race during the season. A twenty-dollar fee will be implemented for each race after the one that is allowed. Substitutes must be in an equal or better level of leagues to fill in for a driver, and will start in last place no matter how they finish during the qualifier. The highest place the substitute will be allowed to finish is the current place the absent driver holds in the league standings.

    4. Late Arrivals and No Shows:
If a driver shows up after a race has begun, they will be allowed to enter the race, but they will be down the number of laps missed. If a driver misses a race, they will still be in the league, but they will receive no points for that race.

    5. Breakdowns:
As in real racing, equipment breakdowns do and will happen from time to time. It is part of racing. It's another variable that makes racing an exciting sport. If a breakdown occurs before or during your race:

  • If you can continue to race, do so. As in real racing, you are now driving a damaged car (i.e.: car stops moving, seat will not lock into place… etc.) Make the proper adjustment and you may still place at the top. If you cannot continue to race for any reason (i.e.… the screens have gone blank, transmission stopped working, etc…), sorry, but you are done racing for the day. Exit your car and plan your comeback for next week. That's racing.

  • During a race, if for any reason your car does break down, you will be awarded point for the position that you finished in. So if your car breaks down at the end of the race and you are in 2nd, you may still have a chance of finishing near the top.
  • 6. Ties:
In the event of a tie at the end of the season, the driver with the most wins will become champion. If both drivers have the same amount of wins, then we will go to 2nd place finishes, and so on until the tie is broken.

    7. Race Postponement:
In the event a race must be postponed due to equipment failure, bad weather, etc…, all racers will be notified before the race (if possible) and a make up date will be scheduled by NSMS League Manager. We will do everything in our power not to move a League event for a Group sale, etc., to the best of our ability.

    8. League Pay-out:
League level, entry fee and the amount of drivers per league will determine all prizes awarded.

    9. Spirit of Good Competition!:
You are all here because you enjoy racing and the competition. While there is rubbing, banging, and accidents in auto racing, it is usually by accident or poor split second decisions made by the driver.

At no time is it acceptable for a driver to hit or take out another driver purposely, for any reason. If anyone thinks that that is just part of racing, you are in the wrong place.

As in real racing, NSMS will not tolerate any unsportsmanlike conduct while in or out of the car. If you are seen hitting or taking someone out and we (the track official) feel it was purposely done, any of the following penalties can and will be implemented.

  • You will be brought into the pits for a 1 to 5 lap penalty. The penalty will be decided by the track official, depending on their interpretation of the incident.

  • You will be black-flagged. The track official has the option of black flagging a driver from the rest of the race if they feel the incident was severe enough.

  • A second incident during the same race by the same driver will result in an automatic black flag from the rest of the race. If you are black-flagged for the rest of the race, you will be awarded no points for that race. In severe situations, you can also be banned from the league if necessary.
  • At no time will arguing, swearing, fighting, etc; be tolerated towards another driver or the officials in regards to penalties or decisions that were made during or after a race. If this occurs, one or more of the following may be imposed.

  • Automatic deductions of 50 points from the league point standings.

  • Suspension from the next race with no points awarded.

  • If the behavior continues, possible disqualification from the rest of the season with no
    refund of league dues.

  • If there is actual physical contact in the Speedway, there will be a suspension imposed on one or both of the participants, up to including permanent banning from all NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway Racing Centers. A full investigation will take place by the GM before any suspensions are handed out.
  • 10. Disputes:
Any disputes over decisions made by officials during or after a race must be put in writing describing the incident in your own words and turned into the league manager before the next race. In order to make a dispute you must finish the entire race (the only exception is if your vehicle becomes incapacitated and you are unable to complete the race because of a mechanical failure). If you do not complete the race, no dispute will be heard. The league manager's decisions are final and not subject to further discussions.

    11. Understanding Your Driving Abilities:
All drivers must understand that 99% of the hits and accidents during a race are unintentional. Even the top NASCAR drivers have had their share of accidents and poor driving decisions throughout their career. You all do and will make mistakes during a race. One of the biggest parts of being a great driver is the ability to:

  • Interpret a problem before it happens.

  • Quickly make a plan of action in case it does happen.

  • Be able to implement the plan when it does occur.
  • It takes much more than a good lap time to become a great driver and win races consistently. From the time you enter the track until you cross the finish line, you must constantly be thinking and implementing different plans of action to get through the incidents that pop up throughout the race. The driver that does that most effectively is going to win the war 80-90% of the time. Less than 10% of the time does the fastest car win!

    12. Refunds:
There will be no refunds given after the first week of competition begins. There will be no exceptions to this rule.

    13. Prizes:
Prizes are an added benefit to your league experience here at NSMS. Prizes and amounts are based on the total pool from the current league. Prize recipients MUST fill out the proper paperwork (i.e. Speedway Prize Acceptance form) or forfeit their winnings. No exceptions will be made to this rule!

    14. Artificial Intelligence Cars:
Please understand that we are a new and developing technology. At times the artificial intelligence (A.I.) cars may act in an unpredictable fashion during a race. For this reason protests will not be allowed based on the behavior of the artificial intelligence. Everyone in a particular race is going up against the same drivers and the same A.I..

    15. League Point Person:
Each League should assign a "point" person that will be the main contact between the league members and the management team at NSMS. The league should appoint this person no later than after the first race has run and inform the store who this person is. Any and all questions, disputes, change of formats, etc, requests, should be made by this person. This will streamline the communication process and ensure all issues are handled in a timely manner.

If you have any questions regarding these League Technical and Sporting Rules & Regulations or would like to know how to join or start a League, please contact your local NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway Racing Center.
