Albany TV Sportscaster Dan Murphy Races 24 Continuous Hours To Benefit Children's Hospital

12:45pm, Friday, May 12th, 2001
Dan Murphy kicked off the event at 12:30pm when 7 challengers filled the cars, driving for dollars and for the chance to beat the sports anchor live on local TV. Dan showed up early well-stocked with bottles of water and snacks to keep him awake and energized for the 24-hour fund raiser.

Dan interviewed Jay Goldstein, General Manager of the Crossgates Racing Center, live on ABC before the event began. ABC will be shooting live footage for all their news programs today and will to a recap tomorrow after the 24-hr. challenge is finished. Race #2 has just begun, and there are plenty of fans to cheer them on.

elapsed time: 5 hours, 15 minutes

5 hours into the 24-hour race-a-thon and Dan Murphy is still all smiles. He'll be on the camera at 5:30pm, and 6pm for ABC news updates. He started out in Tony Stewart's Home Depot car, turned a few laps in the Havoline #28, and is now racing the #20 car again. Dan's racing on the Atlanta Motor Speedway for the entire time. Many people have heard about this racing adventure and are coming by just to say hello and cheer him on.

Our NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway staff is helping the Albany Children's Hospital representatives in their efforts to raise dollars for the cause. Here's some of the crew.
