 COUNTRY MUSIC STAR, TRACE ADKINS AND NASCAR ICON, DARRELL WALTRIP RACE AT THE NASCAR SILICON MOTOR SPEEDWAY AT OPRY MILLS December 16, 2002, Nashville, TN - On Saturday, December 14th, 2002, the Race Crew at the NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway at Opry Mills played host to EMI Capitol Record's Country Music Recording Star, Trace Adkins and his friend, NASCAR icon and FOX TV's NASCAR broadcast personality, Darrell Waltrip for a special appearance for Trace Adkins Fan Club winners brought to Nashville to promote the release of Trace's newest CD, "Chrome". During this year's CMA "Fan Fair" held earlier this Summer in Nashville, our own Jeff Carden approached Trace's Management Representative and Capitol Record Executives about hosting an appearance sometime soon at the NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway at Opry Mills. "I knew Trace was a big NASCAR fanatic and that he was extremely popular with NASCAR fans who love his music. It was a natural fit for us and he seemed very receptive to the idea", Jeff said.  The
Fan Club weekend included a visit to the Grand Ole Opry where Trace
was a featured performer, the Country Music Hall of Fame, a visit
to Opry Mills, a private acoustic performance and luncheon with Trace
and his family, shopping and sight seeing in and around Nashville.
One
of the highlights was visiting the NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway at Opry
Mills where each of the contest winners and their guests got the chance
to race our NASCAR Simulators against Trace Adkins and Darrell Waltrip.
Each guest received special NASCAR prizes and racing, compliments of Capitol
Records, along with an exclusive photo and autograph session during a
break between qualifing races. Many Opry Mills Mall patrons looked on
with envy that they could not participate in this private Speedway function.  
The Top Ten Qualifiers raced against Darrell and Trace for the chance to win an all expense paid weekend trip to a 2003 Winston Cup NASCAR Race and $250.00 of NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway Merchandise. The final race was no contest at all. Darrell had an unfortunate start off the pole on our Daytona EXTREME! Track so Trace took the lead and never looked back. He won his very own "Adkins/Waltrip 500" Championship Race! The fan which won the Grand Prize Package finished a distant second to the driving skills of this speed demon: Trace Adkins.  "Man, I had a blast! Thank you all very much.", Trace told our Crew afterwards. Darrell Waltrip also had a great time racing and shared insightful comments about our NASCAR Entertainment Venue and staff. "This was my first visit to a NASCAR Speedway and I'm sure I will be back again soon".  The Crew did an outstanding job accommodating these guests at Opry Mills. This was one memorable day for us.
